MARCH EVENT INFO POST: A SOUND OF THUNDER
man, it’s sure been a wild couple of months, huh? Fio has been having weird dreams. a mirror ate Bash. Crabb touched some stuff. Ava and Pratt fed Ebalon’s corpse to a ghost. wild stuff.
anyway, entirely unrelated, there’s suddenly giant holes in reality everywhere?

that’s normal. that’s probably fine. it’s friendly.
WELCOME TO MEMSHARE EVENT BUT BUILT DIFFERENT! throughout the month of March, large cracks will begin to form around the Serena Eterna: on walls, on floors, in the air, under water, anywhere and everywhere. these cracks are completely benign until touched; anyone who touches one will find themselves pulled inside, along with anyone standing too close to them.
inside, they will find themselves in the middle of a fellow passenger’s memory - physically. they will be able to interact with the world of the memory, and those inside it will react to them and their actions. what they do in the memory will have a lasting impact: namely, if you die in the memory, you die in real life, and the new memory formed by their actions will join the existing memory inside the memory-owner’s, well, memory.
super confusing and weird, right? let’s try to explain this through an example.
a crack forms, containing Jack’s memory of the day he and Jill went up the hill. the crack, at separate times, is touched by Tom, alone, and Dick and Harry, together. while in the memory, Tom saves Jack when he falls down in the hill; meanwhile, Dick and Harry are killed when Tom and Jill collide with them, killing them both. Tom leaves the memory unscathed, while Dick and Harry revive in their cabins, thankful that they seem to have been spared the Dumb Death Tax.
from that point on, until otherwise noted, Jack will have three separate memories of the same event: falling down and breaking his crown, being saved by Tom, and dying. despite the fact that these three memories are very much mutually exclusive, and the fact that Jack also has memories of his life after apparently dying, he will be unable to discern which memory is the true one on his own. they will all feel equally real to him.
(note: this isn’t permanent! probably. you have a chance to fix it! a chance.)
please feel free to use this post for plotting purposes. memories can be shared as many times as you feel you can handle; how they are shared (threading out the interaction, handwaving and just writing the memory and the reaction separately, etc) is entirely up to you.
oh, and one more thing.
there will also be npc memories available. these memories will be much less interactive than passenger ones, but will contain Delicious Lore. sign-up thread below, closes on March 1st. memories will be allocated randomly to no more than one or two characters each.

Unsettling Genius Child Era:
- Necromancy origin point: At around the age of 12, Jade accidentally kills his own teacher by attempting a fonic arte beyond his capacity, and then tries to resurrect her by magically cloning her right afterwards with utterly disastrous results. Needless to say, this is a pretty load-bearing core memory for Jade, as this incident has shaped a countless number of his life choices ever since, and was the jumping-off point of his spiral into future years of attempted necromancy. Pretty bad time, quite traumatic! Chances of collateral visitor death are moderately high depending on how they might decide to tackle this memory as it unfolds; I don't mind laying out the specific details of how death could potentially happen if desired for planning, though just diving in and seeing what happens is always a valid option too ofc. I think I'd prefer that Sail!Jade not be present for this one.
- Hands-on biology research, A Very Normal Child Thing: Catch an even younger Jade engaging in one of his past favorite hobbies on the snowy outskirts of his hometown--practicing killing passing monsters with fonic artes, and then taking them apart to study their anatomy! He'd probably be around 8 or 9 years old here. Visitors would possibly be inclined to help with dispatching the monsters, but this kid's gonna want to dissect them afterwards and it's probably gonna be off-putting
- Religious daytrip with adoptive family: Least traumatizing/horrible youth option?! The Curtiss family were very devout followers of the Order of Lorelei; after being adopted by House Curtiss in his teens, Jade's newer parents would often take him on pilgrimages in the country of Daath, to visit stone monuments scattered throughout the countryside and pray/ponder upon their inscriptions of the Score and Lorelei's history. Visit Jade in a memory of one of these trips, where he's frankly bored out of his skull and looking for any excuse to drift off/potentially interact with an interesting stranger or two? Could be an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the prophecy-based religion of Jade's homeland, and how heavy a hand it had on the lives of everyone who lived by it! Jade hasn't talked about it very much in Sail for...several reasons, but this could be a good time to get that ball rolling whether he likes it or not lmao. Ofc you could also just experience an adolescent Jade in general here! (Before he starts really getting into the War Crimes smh--) He'd be about 14 or 15
Speaking of war crimes! Young Adult Necromancy Era: Jade's around 19-21 for these. Just lil early adulthood things...
- He picks at corpses on battlefields, and has soldiers with dead men's faces in his ranks: Honestly pretty much what it says on the tin! The corpse-picking would continue being a widely-circulated rumor in the military sphere for years, and it actually wasn't completely unfounded. I'm thinking of possibly a memory set during the Hod War here, almost immediately after a particularly nasty engagement, where Jade's scouring the battlefield afterwards for Malkuth soldier corpses intact enough to extract replica data. Try not to get mistaken for a straggling surviving Kimlascan soldier or something, though! Passing off your case as a lost and confused civilian near-casualty might work, if you do catch attention.
- This sure is some human experimentation: Aka just what it is that Jade proceeds to do with that harvested replica data! This would be a memory set in a military academy lab containing a machine that can facilitate fomicry--the magic cloning Jade's been trying to refine ever since he killed his teacher. Watch Jade and a team of fellow scientists as they create living human clones, assess whether they've retained memories of their originals which they never do, and decide whether they're stable enough for testing or need to be disposed! Fair warning, though: this is an Imperially-sanctioned classified project, which means that noticed intruders may be apprehended and arrested on suspicion of espionage if caught. There might be a few hiding places in the lab, though, or maybe you'd like to try your hand at passing for a lab tech yourself...?
Moderately More Chill Recent Adult Era: Age 23 onwards, by which point Jade has finally given up on fomicry, and most closely resembles his present-day self.
- Grand Chokmah vibing: idk it might be nice for visitors to have a tour of Malkuth's "floating capital", Grand Chokmah! Where Jade used to live, before Sail happened :') It's a beautiful medieval-fantasy-ish city suspended over water adjacent to the sea, and runs on an elaborate system of aqueducts. The Imperial palace can readily be found at its center! For a fleshier visitor experience maybe it can be a memory where Jade's attending a party for some occasion on the palace grounds and there's an attempt to assassinate the Emperor that needs foiling or smth...
- Wanna meet his original teens? Or at least spot one of them??? Insert actual canon game events here?! The struggle with jrpg stories is that they often involve a myriad cast of characters that are together for most events lmao, which makes a lot of scenes rather daunting to npc. If people might want to see Jade interacting with his gaggle of Original Youths from a distance, though, I could try to whip up something! Could even just be an eavesdropped silly or heartwarming convo. Like shenanigans with Tear, or a particular talk he has with Luke (aka his OG not!son) about killing people and their differences in handling it, etc...
Whether or not Sail!Jade could be along for the ride is up in the air with most of these memories! When it comes to his more unfortunate memories especially, Sail!Jade may be prone to fixation on his past self with an alarmingly murderous sort of intent, which is, probably fine, don't worry about that........anyway yes, lmk where preferences in this vein might be! Also, if you've got ideas for other potential memories/scenarios feel free to drop them in here :)b

just kidding, i think i want the warcrimes era. the vibes and age match for clarke, but i'll let you pick which you think would be more interesting!
no subject
god you're so right though, the vibes and the age really do match...this sure is gonna be, a fun time. considering there's several takers for the lab scenario, maybe clarke could stumble her way into the battlefield scenario? unless you'd like for her to join a potential lab group thread ofc!! totally up to you there c:
no subject
but yeeeees! I'm thinking..... That I wanna stalk the lab incidents with natsuno/Rita/pal, but wanna actually toss Clarke right on the battlefield and see where that goes!
no subject
imma gently pencil her in for battlefield adventures in that case! good luck clarke learn lots have fun (it is not going to be a fun place at all unfortunately alas)

(i can't wait for the trauma, you know me alice)

Also I really a want a short tour of the palace and meeting Cute Jade.
no subject
well he still is today honestly but dont worry about that ANYWAYAlas that one time he spilled the beans about getting started on fomicry during the truth event still didn't actually cover the full scope of just how long and terrible his necromancer phase was....
But yeah a group thread does sound like it could be fun!! I'll float the idea on plurk too and see if other lab folks might like to join Natsuno, please help this kid navigate a mad science pvp zone rip)
Also Natsuno absolutely has to meet Cute Jade holy shit it's true...Grand Chokmah tour could def be a thing! Palate cleanser after the warcrimes :') Actually maybe Sail!Jade could accompany him here to help with navigating around without getting caught out...! It's amazing how people don't recognize you when you take off your glasses and pull up your hair a certain way and maybe wear something on your head... (Also this way he'd get inevitably roped into. Having to actually, explain, what's going on with Cute Jade lmao)

Don't mind me over here gently crying at the thought of Pal probably being one of the few people in Jade's cr circle with the capacity to actually perfectly blend into a morally dubious lab setting without too much issue at all...
no subject
basically when the time comes, i would jump into any of these!!!!
no subject
and actually honestly even though i was leaning towards sail!jade not being present for the nebilim accident when i wrote this plot post, i could actually even envision dropping him in at a possible later point in the memory as opposed to him accompanying skully right away if we were to swing for that one?? since cruisie has confirmed chars can pop into the same memory and eventually bump into each other through different rifts/points on the map. one the one hand: fun occasion for skully to acquire the lore on jade's necromancer origins! BUT on the other hand: it'd probably be less fun bullying and more dramatic damage control for jade and skuls at that point too depending on how it unfolds haha ha, weighs hands...
tldr god i bet this actually hasn't been helpful to you in narrowing anything down at all lmao im so sorry....basically i'd be delighted with whichever one you decide to choose ok kelly!! these two are getting into memory adventures one way or another here and im sure it'll be beautiful
