MARCH EVENT INFO POST: A SOUND OF THUNDER
man, it’s sure been a wild couple of months, huh? Fio has been having weird dreams. a mirror ate Bash. Crabb touched some stuff. Ava and Pratt fed Ebalon’s corpse to a ghost. wild stuff.
anyway, entirely unrelated, there’s suddenly giant holes in reality everywhere?

that’s normal. that’s probably fine. it’s friendly.
WELCOME TO MEMSHARE EVENT BUT BUILT DIFFERENT! throughout the month of March, large cracks will begin to form around the Serena Eterna: on walls, on floors, in the air, under water, anywhere and everywhere. these cracks are completely benign until touched; anyone who touches one will find themselves pulled inside, along with anyone standing too close to them.
inside, they will find themselves in the middle of a fellow passenger’s memory - physically. they will be able to interact with the world of the memory, and those inside it will react to them and their actions. what they do in the memory will have a lasting impact: namely, if you die in the memory, you die in real life, and the new memory formed by their actions will join the existing memory inside the memory-owner’s, well, memory.
super confusing and weird, right? let’s try to explain this through an example.
a crack forms, containing Jack’s memory of the day he and Jill went up the hill. the crack, at separate times, is touched by Tom, alone, and Dick and Harry, together. while in the memory, Tom saves Jack when he falls down in the hill; meanwhile, Dick and Harry are killed when Tom and Jill collide with them, killing them both. Tom leaves the memory unscathed, while Dick and Harry revive in their cabins, thankful that they seem to have been spared the Dumb Death Tax.
from that point on, until otherwise noted, Jack will have three separate memories of the same event: falling down and breaking his crown, being saved by Tom, and dying. despite the fact that these three memories are very much mutually exclusive, and the fact that Jack also has memories of his life after apparently dying, he will be unable to discern which memory is the true one on his own. they will all feel equally real to him.
(note: this isn’t permanent! probably. you have a chance to fix it! a chance.)
please feel free to use this post for plotting purposes. memories can be shared as many times as you feel you can handle; how they are shared (threading out the interaction, handwaving and just writing the memory and the reaction separately, etc) is entirely up to you.
oh, and one more thing.
there will also be npc memories available. these memories will be much less interactive than passenger ones, but will contain Delicious Lore. sign-up thread below, closes on March 1st. memories will be allocated randomly to no more than one or two characters each.

Ari Tayrey
If Ari has mentioned a particular person, issue or event to them and you want to explore that, let me know! Otherwise, some broader ideas:
Cardalek:
- chat with a very young and precocious Ari at a Company event.
- see how little Ari is treated by her family - her caring but distant adoptive father, and/or the mess that is the Carrington branch.
- overhear her and her best friend planning to run off to the Tradelines together and learn exactly what her problems with Cardalek were.
Space Stations:
- the incident where Ari is attacked for being a Tradeliner and shoots someone (hear anti-Tradeline arguments here!)
- Ari's first trip downstation after she qualifies. Meet her friends and celebrate, or explore the station and talk to other NPCs. (cw: 16-year-old Ari gets drunk and has sex with a stranger; this isn't only accepted but a cultural expectation. This will not be part of the memory but will likely come up in conversation.)
Space!
- stowaway Ari hiding in the laundry room and then negotiating with the captain
- her first L-space experience (cw for anything L-space: characters will experience extreme perceptual distortions, probable nausea, possible hallucinations. There are colors not found in normal space, the geometry is all wrong, it's quite Lovecraftian.) Her mentor Leah Savitskaya will be there, but it's also possible to have a later L-space memory where Ari's older and she can support your character through it instead.
- Ari's solo L-space test. This test is incredibly dangerous and failure means death. It takes place on an old, small spacecraft, and she may think she is hallucinating your character.
- a space battle! Help fight some pirates. Ari may be flying the ship, or working on emergency repairs. (cw: death, injury, characters fearing that defeat means torture and enslavement) Pirates don't board Ari's ship in any of her memories, but it's possible if changes are made, so there's potential for your character to get involved in a fight instead of just watching starships fire at each other. This might work well as a group thread if there's interest.
- a simulation! To really mess with their heads. A memory of young Ari in command of a ship, having to handle several problems at once - and then the simulation ending and the memory switching to the actual ship.
- something less intense! Just chat with Ari and her shipmates, tour the ship, see her culture and the life she longs to go back to first-hand.
For all scenarios I'm open to the original outcome being changed - for better or worse.

Hallucinatory Oda just being like "this is my domain. I live here now." As you do.

If you liked we could do a combination since the typical time for pirates to attack is right after a ship exits L-space. It's most vulnerable then. So he arrives to L-space, gets to see the weirdness, then they drop into normal space and pirate attack happens?
Also there are multiple pirate attacks in her history so any preference on whether he gets competent lieutenant Ari, or much younger Ari who will be more freaked out?

Plus he gets to see space and the wonky non-Euclidian geometry that goes with it. He'll be really excited to watch her fly around and hopefully he won't puke up Bliss or something awful.
