MARCH EVENT INFO POST: A SOUND OF THUNDER
man, it’s sure been a wild couple of months, huh? Fio has been having weird dreams. a mirror ate Bash. Crabb touched some stuff. Ava and Pratt fed Ebalon’s corpse to a ghost. wild stuff.
anyway, entirely unrelated, there’s suddenly giant holes in reality everywhere?

that’s normal. that’s probably fine. it’s friendly.
WELCOME TO MEMSHARE EVENT BUT BUILT DIFFERENT! throughout the month of March, large cracks will begin to form around the Serena Eterna: on walls, on floors, in the air, under water, anywhere and everywhere. these cracks are completely benign until touched; anyone who touches one will find themselves pulled inside, along with anyone standing too close to them.
inside, they will find themselves in the middle of a fellow passenger’s memory - physically. they will be able to interact with the world of the memory, and those inside it will react to them and their actions. what they do in the memory will have a lasting impact: namely, if you die in the memory, you die in real life, and the new memory formed by their actions will join the existing memory inside the memory-owner’s, well, memory.
super confusing and weird, right? let’s try to explain this through an example.
a crack forms, containing Jack’s memory of the day he and Jill went up the hill. the crack, at separate times, is touched by Tom, alone, and Dick and Harry, together. while in the memory, Tom saves Jack when he falls down in the hill; meanwhile, Dick and Harry are killed when Tom and Jill collide with them, killing them both. Tom leaves the memory unscathed, while Dick and Harry revive in their cabins, thankful that they seem to have been spared the Dumb Death Tax.
from that point on, until otherwise noted, Jack will have three separate memories of the same event: falling down and breaking his crown, being saved by Tom, and dying. despite the fact that these three memories are very much mutually exclusive, and the fact that Jack also has memories of his life after apparently dying, he will be unable to discern which memory is the true one on his own. they will all feel equally real to him.
(note: this isn’t permanent! probably. you have a chance to fix it! a chance.)
please feel free to use this post for plotting purposes. memories can be shared as many times as you feel you can handle; how they are shared (threading out the interaction, handwaving and just writing the memory and the reaction separately, etc) is entirely up to you.
oh, and one more thing.
there will also be npc memories available. these memories will be much less interactive than passenger ones, but will contain Delicious Lore. sign-up thread below, closes on March 1st. memories will be allocated randomly to no more than one or two characters each.

also does remembering your own death count as dying?

1. Will characters have access to their own powers in the world of the memory? Or can they have access to that world of the memory's magic/skill/power system? Both? Or whatever's most fun?
2. In canon, Fio has a missing memory. One that I can't really bring up ICly (like so much other things in her canon), unfortunately. She still remembers the feelings from that time, but not the specific events. Can that forgotten memory be an option or does it have to be something she remembers?
Lastly, this is more like an invitation than a question. I might sit out of sign-ups since Fio's had Sparkles lore time already. If you'd like, I'm inviting an NPC (your choice) to Fio's memories if it doesn't interfere with whatever you have planned/if you feel like it. Totally fine if it can't be done!

2. forgotten memories are an option. somebody remembered them at some point, after all.

would they still have the madness effect on people? im imagining it causing madness in the memory but when they're out of it its just a memory of going mad?

Basically how messed up can it be, I already decided the death tax is on so his parents will appear like creepy static-y figures
ALSO: what if a visitor steers the memory into a previously unseen territory? Like, what if they convince Natsuno to sneak into the creepy manor he's only ever seen from outside?
no subject
like, in Natsuno's memoryscape, Paris exists, even if he's never been to Paris.

Related: does the same amount of time pass on the ship as passed in the memory?

Additionally, does the translation field still work in the memories?
ETA how *big* are the memories? Ie, is there a limit of *where* you can go in them or is it limited to the immediate area? Do they just sort of last until they end or is there a time limit?
no subject
the translation field is literally just to make everyone's lives easier, but if it's more fun to make things harder. like. whatevs.
no limits.

* oops I just noticed this was already asked

ask-cruise discord question answers im putting here to be helpful
like, a sharp jagged slash indicating a violent memory, something soft and wispy-edged for a sentimental memory, that kinda thing
followup: can people like, see thru the crack into the memory beyond it or is it obscured until you go thru
cruise answer:
blurry!
i posted pictures
also you can fancify your cracks iffin you want
does the same crack always lead to the same memory?
cruise answer:
hmmmmmmm
up to you, if you're having like multiple people

Can two people be dropped into the same world of memory but on slightly different parts of the map? Or do both need to be dropped off near the memory-holder? For example, Person A enters through a rift and gets dropped off upstairs near the memory-holder. Person B enters a different rift leading to the same memory world, but gets dropped off downstairs of the same building, some ways off from the memory-holder.
2) Does the rift just vanish after entering the memory and the visitors get kicked out whenever? Or can any rifts be visible on the memory side?
