DECEMBER EVENT INFO: ALL WORK, NO PLAY
starting on December 1st, a sign-up sheet at Friday’s desk will advertise the next excursion. it reads:
DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS? Spend the holidays at a mountain resort! No murder? Please?
okay so basically they’re going to mohonk mountain house reality that’s it that’s the setting
the following signups are not for the excursion itself: anyone is welcome to come along, and as rooms will be handled on a dibs basis, assignments are not required. they are for the true heart of the event:
in the early morning hours of the 26th, Murder Most Foul will be committed. it will be up to the passengers to gather clues and deliberate about who the killer is during a mass trial, hopefully bringing them to justice. but, beware! the murderer is one of their own.
what are the consequences of failure? none, really. the murdered passengers will wake up back on the ship, as per usual, and the non-murdered will simply return by tender. all that will happen is that the killer will remain a mystery. and I know how y’all hate those.
the murderer’s consequences for failure are a bit more strict, as getting caught means execution. which does end with waking back up on the ship, but, y’know. still not very fun. also being caught doing a murder puts a damper on your social life for maybe a week.
OOCly, the calm part of the event will start up around the 20th, while the murdergame will begin on the 27th.
signing up means opening yourself up to the opportunity to be either the murderer or the murderee. be prepared for either.
SIGN-UPS CLOSE idk, fuck, december…. 10th??? that sounds good.

Questions about the setting
Is this a Captain-created reality? If so, how old is it?
Assuming it’s captain-created, there is nothing actually alive, right?
Also assuming captain-created, how big are the grounds and what happens when you hit the end? The hotel website says the grounds are 40,000 acres fwiw.
I know a lot of folks are already diving deep into the hotel website, but before I jump in, I just want to double-check: aside from the ghost staff, is there anything about this version of the hotel that is different from the actual hotel? Can we assume all the rooms/menus/amenities are exactly as advertised?
What kind of snow gear will be available?
no subject
- yes, a few hundred years old
- yes, will be described further in event post.
- you'll see.
- assume everything is available except also staffed by ghosts, yes
- Idk Snow Stuff i haven't seen snow in over a decade whatever you need for that
questions pt 2 (really plz don't hate me)
Will there be separate posts for the investigation and the trial? How far apart will they be posted? Essentially, oocly, how long will people have for the “investigating” part of the plot before the “trial” part kicks off? Once the trial part starts, how long to players have to solve the crime?
I’m having a hard time picturing what the trial looks like, so I’m hoping you can give some more information about it! Is it literally going to be a trial, where one person is accused, there are lawyers, a judge, and a jury, or more or a everyone-comes-together-and-lays-out-the-evidence situation? How will the IC post be structured?
ICly, who decides there will be a trial at all? Friday? The Captain? A played character? A ghost? How will the characters find out?
Will the characters know that the guilty person will be executed? Could someone (or a group) discover who did it and refuse to tell whoever is running the trial?
Can I request that there be a post in the ooc comm for players to share information? It would be nice to have a centralized location for the discussion and planning, particularly for something as complex as this.
ICly and OOCly, how do characters/players accuse someone? Does it just take one character or player to figure out who did it, or is there going to be some kind of vote or poll?
What happens if the players or characters say someone did it…and they’re wrong? Could the wrong character be executed? (and if so…is there a way to opt out?)
Could someone be found innocent by reason of insanity? For example, if the evidence shows that the character was possessed or otherwise magically compelled?
Wait, will just one person get murdered, or more or than one? The post sometimes refers to one victim and sometimes refers to multiple victims, so I'm confused.
Re: questions pt 2 (really plz don't hate me)
- imagine dangan ronpa, basically. or look at existing murdergame trials for an idea. highly rec foolish mortals.
- you'll see.
- you'll see.
- on the investigation post, there will be an evidence checklist. anything beyond that, y'all are welcome to do whatever makes your lives easier basically.
- Madness Reigns. a formal vote will be called at the end, though. you'll see.
- the Norman Bates clause states that in cases of supernatural or psychological alternate personalities or possessions, the host body is the ultimate guilty party.
- you'll see.
Re: questions pt 2 (really plz don't hate me)
If you really can’t explain further for whatever reason, can you point to a more detailed explanation of murdergame mechanics? Or a couple posts from the games you mentioned that would lay things out for the utterly clueless?
