Daily Routines & Handwaved CR Meme, VOLUME 2
Handwaved CR Meme
The passengers have been living on this ship for a while now, and it's likely that they've fallen into certain habits and routines. Little things have become part of their day, from lunch dates with friends, to quiet nights in the library, or long-standing blood feuds. Even the newest passengers have likely found themselves some common haunts and familiar faces. This is a meme to talk about, flesh out, and collaborate on some of those behind-the-scenes moments and routines!
- Post a comment with your character's name & cabin number in the header, and give us an idea of what sort of things they get up to around the ship! Be as detailed or as vague as you'd like.
- Talk about what kind of handwaved CR you can inspire! Is your character the type to stop and chat with friends on the promenade? Are they consistently the highest score on multiple arcade cabinets? IDK, you tell me!
- When you look at other characters' routines, you might notice some moments that line up! Even if your characters are total strangers, they might see each other at the buffet every day, or maybe they're unwittingly competing for the high score on DDR. And close CR might mean weekly dinners, book clubs, sparring sessions every morning... like I said, this is where you shine!!
- This is also a good chance to handwave characters exchanging contact information, generating some more inbox threads!
TLDR: write about your character's life on the ship and then compare notes with other people, find CR, ???, profit
(Last meme, for those who might need it!)
clarke griffin | cabin 108
— Physical: fair to say Clarke's nearly always dressed in the most simple items the Tommy Bahama has to offer — the darkest capris or leggings around, and some pastel t-shirt or athleisure zipup, or Spirit Halloween scary movie tee. 50/50 odds on if she's wearing cute lil boat shoes or grimey filthy half-calf warboots. Leather hip holster 24/7, gun on left side and caution striped shank on the right. Often with some sort of backpack, notebook, and pen in hand. She's 5'5", blonde and in need of a haircut, and tends to lean towards... Disposition: ...sour and stand offish and a tiny bit of a creep. Observant and doesn't care if she's caught staring at someone new or particularly interesting. In conversation she's flat and gives the vibe she's assessing you as much as listening to you talk. "She's intense," has become a very apt first impression to walk away with; must unlock Friendship Level 6 for jokes, teasing, and essays on personal trauma.
— No set daily routine but can usually be spotted in: Windjammer for buffet style meals, either eaten with perfunctory quickness or dawdled over with a book or notes in the other hand. The Library basically serves as a second home, still set in reading through the entire thing in case they encounter another event scenario based off a book. The front-most part of the main deck sees Clarke with a necklace pendant between her lips and staring out at the sky and water. Sand Dollars for additional coffee fixes, lately seems to be meandering around a bit and touching the walls (don't worry about it). Favors the stairs over getting in the elevator with another person.
— Playback isn't her main scene, but she's learned to appreciate a good videogame binge as a form of stress relief from Natsuno. Will dominate in the Jurassic Park shooting game, and will cheat at Air Hockey. Recently tried out floating in the Pool (after eight months on board jfc) and sometimes joins movie marathons on the Adult Pool so long as there's no clowns featured.
— Regularly pilfers All And Sundries like the resource starved, doomsday prepper apocalypse gremlin she is. Also comfortable in the infirmary (will call it the medbay). Clarke's not a full fledged doctor but she did spend the majority of her life shadowing her mother and being groomed to take over as Chief of Medical, so she's more than willing and ready to help anyone out in a crisis.
— Sports Deck would have seen her hit the track pretty religiously since the truth event, she's working on her fitness. Also a fairly regular attendee to Fight Club, usually people watching like a creep but also lately dabbling (read: failing) at trying out the play swords. No, she doesn't want help and yes it's physically painful for any experienced swordsmaster to watch. Also belongs to Knife Club and technically the Pirate Crew, but hasn't been around for the latter for a while.
— Tauva and Fate's Design also get honorable mentions, but when she's in the smoke lounge or casino it's with purposeful covertness. If she catches anyone familiar notice her leaning over a notebook, she'll pack it up pretty quickly and leave.
— Notable CR you could see her in concert with? Natsuno as #1 emotional support vampire and first pick partner in crime. Palamedes as #2 confidante and (winkwonk). To a slightly lesser extent, Rita and Jade, also fair to say you may have seen her willingly approach and openly talk to Sharky, Pratt, Tear, aaaaand... Number 6?
are those really the only people she likes here? damn— More of a future CR thing but: she's got some fiercely protective feelings over all the above people and will intercede if they're ever in trouble in her line of sight. But would also honestly do that for anyone not on her shitlist, and it's a surprisingly short list (how many of you have tried or succeeded in killing her friends?). "Mind your own business" has no meaning here, everything's her business.

Ari's also worried about potential supply problems (that there always seems to be food just there doesn't mean there always will be!) so she'll be grabbing long-life snacks and useful resources too when she can. They may sometimes be in competition!
Probably all the exercise things. If Clarke prefers the stairs, she's likely seen Ari running up and down them sometime (Nobunaga got her to do it once, she sucked because cardio's not a priority on starships, she decided it was a weakness that needed fixing).

also their first interaction was tense but i fully believe an odd sort of respect would emerge from clarke watching ari doomsday prep like her. some folks don't take to heart that all these resources could stop magically restocking and we could all be left high and dry! gotta prepare while the beef jerky and prepackaged peanuts are still around! pls feel free to imagine any competition would end in clarke conceding and letting ari have the last bottle of advil, bc she appreciates she's not the only one around. (also bc she has 8+ months of stock in her room, like a true apocalypse rat)
and i almost don't wanna handwave a stair based interaction, what if we held onto that idea for a future thread and they could, idk, race or something. a lil bonding moment potentially???

She'd definitely respect Clarke a lot more for the prepping! Ari was told that she didn't need to worry because the ship restocks 'by magic' and her thought process was just omg you're like children who have never been through a shortage. So frustrating for her. Clarke gets all the beef jerky, though - vegetarian Ari's survival instincts don't go quite that far ;)
And yes, let's save the stair interaction! You're right, it would makea fun thread.

rubbing my hands together for this future stair interaction. dependent on what December event timing pans out to be, maybe early next month??

Early December sounds great, barring event-related shenanigans!

it's gonna be so fun once they get past initial sour first impressions and can actually compare and contrast the space experience! bonus points for pulling (checks notes) crichton, gideon, and pal into the space life debate lmfao
and yes! we'll see what the future holds and go from there, but in the meantime know i'm hype!

Although after their first positive handwave interaction Clarke's totally going to get a friendly little greeting from Ari when they pass in the corridors. Little nod and 'Commander.' Sorry Clarke.

I'll take it a strong further and say that, while Clarke is usually very anti-unintended company, she would probably go out of her way to talk to Gideon when approached. nicely, even; no laughter about amenity questions and probably very careful to phrase answers with like, "I didn't know what that was either..." or "still not 100% sure but I've gathered..." sort of answers, so Gideon doesn't feel left out or dumb.
don't mind her occasionally getting distracted by that big sword and muscles shhh
