He was born and raised in a big city, so he wasn't important at all - just another kid. He did get some unwanted attention in the neighborhood/school because his parents weren't married, and his classmates would bully him for it. When he turned older he was better at fading into the background and just doing his thing. He always had a couple of friends he got along with, even if they weren't really close, but most people thought he's a grumpy loner. He didn't have any particular opinion about the city at large...

And then his parents decided to pack up and move to a tiny village in the middle of nowhere. He hated Sotoba with every fiber of his being - since nothing ever happened there, his family was a topic of gossip. The villagers commented on everything from his parents' unmarried status to what kind of bike he was riding. Worse, most of them never bothered to get to know him and just casted him into whatever role they found juicy. To one girl he was the cool new student from the big city who would bring exciting romance to her dull village life. To another boy he was a condescending asshole who thought he's better than everyone and didn't deserve the attention. Only Tohru and his family bothered to know and like him for who he really is.

Natsuno wanted nothing more than leave Sotoba - he was studying hard so he can get into a good urban university, move out and never look back. Even now he resents the village for becoming his grave.
