Chrissy is in love with the idea of love. She's read a lot of fairy tales and fantasy stories and, while she knows logically that those types of relationships are romanticized, she'd still love to find something like that for herself someday. Her only real example of a real relationship is her parents and she'd rather just be alone forever than end up like them.

If her circumstances had been different, she probably would have dated around a bit more in middle and high school. She wasn't actively looking for a relationship on the boat because she had an admittedly terrible boyfriend before waking up here, and she wasn't honestly sure whether or not dying and waking up here meant it was over.

She's had exactly one boyfriend in canon, and as we don't actually get anything a lot about her relationship with Jason, I've just been assuming she started dating him to appease her controlling mom. I also headcanon that she had a crush on Eddie for like five minutes in middle school, got irritated at him for not asking her out, and ultimately got over it.

WHOO BOY I have a lot of Ryan childhood thoughts and lmao have actually been talking about it a lot on discord tonight so this is gonna be long.

To start, the canon facts:

Ryan grew up in Powell Lake, BC, Canada (which is a fictional version of the real town Powell River) in the 70s and 80s. He and Min-Gi were born on the same day in the same hospital and his dad jokingly tells Min-Gi's father that every time he gets off the ferry he's tripping over another kid. Ryan is the middle child in a large family - both parents (mom is named Yui), two older sisters, and two younger brothers. We see them all at a barbeque in the Akagi's backyard when Ryan's six where his dad spends the whole time grilling, mom has to wrangle the two youngest, and his sisters want to be literally anywhere else. He tried to put on a show with Min-Gi, but no one in his family really paid attention. Later, Ryan's dad gives him his old van when he graduates high school and just kinda...lets him go??? Like bye forever??? Ryan later gives this van to an ex and it's not his family he thinks about calling when he hits rock bottom, but Min-Gi. When he returns to Powell Lake he does not go to his childhood home, and when he's on the Infinity Train he reports that his family would not realize he's missing, and that no one cares about him unless he's "doing...something".

Ryan would probably describe it as kind of chaotic, everyone fighting for attention all the time. Generally I headcanon that his dad had a business sort of job where he is away from home a lot and there just isn't enough attention to go around for all five siblings. Generally he tries to keep family talk to a minimum unless it comes up organically because it just...doesn't feel great. He's kind of written off his family and doesn't seem to expect to ever see them again. He doesn't expect anything from them and he's sort of...moved on. Or at least, he tells himself he's moved on.

It's shaped a lot of who he is as a person, because he tends to be unusually self-reliant for his emotional needs! He functions so much better with other people but like...if he's wronged or betrayed, he just assumes that bridge is burned and doesn't try to save it. Maybe it's more accurate to say he can see the bridge burning and he's not going to set himself on fire to try and fix it. The major exception to this is Min-Gi - when Min ditches him at battle of the bands, Ryan does leave without him and assumes he's a lost cause, but he comes back in desperation hoping to convince him one last time. (This in general is something he's trying to do less with Min-Gi in particular too - they talk things out more often than they used to). I'm not gonna do it here but if he ever went to therapy they would have a wild time untangling all his attachment issues.

I think he was pretty emotionally mature as a kid, even if he didn't always act it. We see him really clearly at six years old notice that his family is ignoring him and doesn't care about the show he and Min are putting on for them, process this for a second, and then decide that he can't depend on them for that kind of praise and care. He looks at Min and seems to decide it's more important to reassure Min that it's okay (because Min's parents have trouble hiding the fact that, you know. ...it sounds bad because they're six.) So even though he is really rambunctious and excitable, he has really high emotional intelligence to go along with it - even if he gets caught up in his own bs sometimes and misses things.

And finally he has definitely embraced adulthood. He finds a lot of joy in being able to live the live he wants for himself and do the things that make him happy. He's been waiting to strike out on his own (or rather, with Min-Gi) since he was in middle school at least. He thrives on freedom and being able to really be independent, so high school probably frustrated him a lot.

As far as talents go, Phil picked up a LOT of random skills in Punxsutawney. Among the canonical ones, he can ice sculpt, tune pianos, fix coffee machines, speak fluent French with a terrible accent, be a vocal coach, and. Deliver babies????? Apparently??

He'd probably try to be really surreptitious about it back home where everything is mundane, but here, he'd be like yeah whatever. When does it ever come up, though?

It's hard to HC for every single little thing he's mastered or learned, so I tend to roll for it if I think he might have. Sewing with a machine and by hand is one of the things on that list. And he can do bird calls.

As for habits, he regularly switches around the items on his nightstand every night and is a bit vigilant about keeping his watch wound. Gotta make sure time's still moving forward.

She doesn't have any legitimately unusual interests, but she definitely had to hide how much she likes to read from her mother because Laura had some very specific ideas about how Chrissy's life should be and books don't generally fit into that picture.

She also wanted to continue gymnastics but Hawkins didn't have a team, so she compromised and went to cheer tryouts to please her mother, and turned out to be good at it.

Chrissy's never been particularly artistically inclined, so she's more likely to make a list than a drawing. When she was younger, she used to practice her penmanship or writing her name in different styles.

Phil has had an interest in exercise after Punxsutawney, both because doing that much running around and being so winded kind of sucked, and because feeling himself getting stronger and keeping track of his body changing, after it being so drastically unchanging for so long, helps keep his head screwed on straight. It also helps me explain why he's so fucking jacked in post-show DWRP.

His diet follows in as far as that. He doesn't do calorie counting, but he tries to eat pretty healthy, and regularly.

He can cook and cooks well. He lived by himself for a long time (because who the fuck would tolerate living with him) so even pre-Punx he knew how to cook passable meals, but like, just for himself. Nothing you'd bring to a potluck or serve a guest. Post-Punx he's pretty banger in the kitchen. He makes a killer shakshuka.

He doesn't have to be reminded to eat, but he might check in with others, or leave snacks for them if they seem to be regularly skipping meals on accident. (Looking at you Palamedes.)
