Natsuno couldn't care less about his reputation and does his own thing regardless of what people think.

He's usually seen as a grumpy loner, and while it's definitely true that's not all who he is. Because he's so aloof and hard to read, people tend to project and assume he's arrogant or heartless, when in most cases he just wants to be left alone. He can be caring, loyal and self-sacrificing, but most people don't look beyond his emo teen exterior.

Natsuno is fine with that - he doesn't need everyone to like or know him. But he does hate it when people project and make assumptions.

he likes to paint the picture of the wallflower loner as a means of self preservation, but truthfully he really likes to have a close knit group of friends. at the same time, he's picky about the type of people he makes friends with, because he's been hurt enough in the past by people who toss him aside or make fun of him behind his back.

of course, it's also a lot more difficult to meet new people in hawkins that don't already have certain assumptions about who he is based on his last name and his appearance. thanks to the jamjar setting, he's a lot more willing to give people a chance.

there are a few ways this could go. most of the time, it ends with him scribbling down whatever comes to mind, a stream of consciousness mess of words, but sometimes those words can be worked into song lyrics.

if he's in a fantasy kind of mood though, he might be doodling something, perhaps a dragon or a legion of undead zombies, or something else based on one of his dnd campaigns.

Definitely smarter than average. He's both intelligent and observant and can be a great teen detective we he puts his mind to it. He's also extremely studious, though he's not interested in intellectual pursuits on their own but as a means to an end.

Most of his knowledge is from school, though that's been useless on the ship. These days he relies on snooping around to learn new things. Definitely more book smart than street smart, but he's incredibly good at staying calm under pressure which helps a lot.

so, ha ha, I thought about a lot of these questions very briefly when putting my characters down for this meme, so I already had this answer in mind already before I went around looking at other answers, and, funny story, ha ha, April's answer here is, aha, it's grids

So Crabb considers her childhood to have been a good one, her parents were loving and instilled mostly good values in her that she carries to this day, but the older she gets the more she realises how much she stood out as a kid. Her parents didn't really know what to do with her refusal to really fit into the "ladylike" box, which in practice mostly resulted in them giving up trying to force her whilst still not exactly being thrilled about it. As an adult she had the impression everyone around her was trying to put something on her that they wanted to see, rather than letting her just be her, and that started pretty early even if her parents were otherwise decent parents. They just imparted a lot of cultural and religious baggage.

Her upbringing also definitely left her with the deep love of her country and desire to serve it, though. I figure her father fought in the Platinum Wars and that really started drilling that into her head, on top of their lessons about keeping your word and working hard, but also left her with the idea that questioning the system too much wasn't love of her country which is an attitude she only shook when she was like 30.

She was basically mature by her mid-teens and moved out as soon as she could after getting her first pay from the police to try and demonstrate that to people around her. She absolutely wouldn't go back to her childhood, she's embraced adulthood and specifically being seen as the person she's always wanted to be seen as.

Crabb actually does put a reasonable amount of effort into her appearance, a little more so than she probably did before her life took the turn it did. She doesn't spend a lot of time on it necessarily but she does put in enough to put herself forward the way she wants to be seen. Maintains her hairstyle, keeps a very specific wardrobe... it matters more to her for the sake of giving off the right impression and generally looking respectable than for like, looks sake alone, though. ...and she sure as hell has no problem letting her clothes and everything else get fucked up when a fight calls for it, lmao.

Helena's generally seen exactly in the light she wants to be seen as - a well behaved young woman who's smart and doesn't make trouble. She takes pains with her reputation, both because of social pressure and out of a sense of obligation. She deeply wants to avoid as much pity for her disability as she can, and works on this by maintaining her particular impressions. The more "normal" she is, the less she'll be singled out.

As far as it ringing close to who she is...it both is and isn't the case. Helena restrains a lot of her impulses due to a combination of her education and her own conscience. Allowing herself to go wild is a thing of the past, at present, so it's doubtful she fully knows her own self at this time.

Primarily, her detective work, which in itself involves a lot of digging into the history of her city and the stories of her mentor's old cases. She loves solving mysteries, finding the truth, it doesn't have to be about any one thing, but if something presents itself to her she'll chase it down until she has the answers. She was a working class kid in the late 19th-early 20th centuries and didn't really get to, or necessarily want to, seek out more academic intellectual pursuits.

Here on the boat she is now picking up writing slowly, but even that comes down to basically the same thing. She's thinking about recording parts of her home's history via the stories she's lived through herself.

She tries to think about what she's going to do the next day, or about whatever book she's reading. Average, everyday things to bore herself to sleep. But really it usually ends up in remembering and thinking over things that are on her mind - conversations with friends, remembering those she misses from the past, or imagining the place she grew up. Things that generally make her feel safe enough to relax enough to catch some shut eye.

I don't really want to make assumptions about how other characters here see her, but on her ship she's definitely seen by most people as talented, loyal, hardworking, very single-minded which can be either a good or a bad thing. She'd like that, though. She'd appreciate it less that there are some people who think she's under too much pressure at too young an age and feel sorry for her, or just get annoyed by her relentless perfectionist, careerist attitude and wish she'd calm down a bit.

Reputation matters a lot to her - with people she's close to, it's personal reputation, but otherwise it's something broader. She's representing her organisation, the Tradelines, and she's probably the only Tradeliner anyone on the Serena Eterna is going to meet, so she really wants to give a good impression, or at least an accurate one. She said to someone once that she doesn't matter if she/the Tradelines are hated, as long as it's for something they've actually done, not misconceptions. There can be a real enmeshing of the personal and the professional for her sometimes where reputation is concerned, and that's because at home if you're rude to her, you're not insulting Ari Tayrey but a spacer of the Tradelines and that's a bigger deal. She knows intellectually that this isn't the case for people who don't share her cultural context at all, but it's hard to let go of sometimes. So we get some overreactions sometimes!

She doesn't really have a conceptualisation of who she truly is, separate from perception (or misperception), except at the points where she thinks she doesn't measure up to what a good Tradeliner should be, in which case it's her fault for not being good enough. Ask her who she is and she'll talk about her job - it really is quite all-encompassing for her, which isn't very psychologically healthy.

Honestly by any standards but her own world's, most of her interests, talents and habits are a little weird lmao. A teenager who's been building highly advanced weapons since she was barely even a teenager in the first place is, of course, not exactly the most normal thing, and even by her world's standards, she's a little nuttier over weapons than other huntsmen around her.

Her love of fairy tales is definitely one she feels like she should have outgrown, but hasn't whatsoever and still mostly doesn't shy away from. She also wears her cloak with basically every outfit she can get away with it on and even some she can't (see: wearing her cloak over a swimsuit to the beach) because the consistency is comforting, for both physical and emotional reasons.

And generally she's not ashamed of any of this. Even at her most socially awkward she never actually tries to hide how she is.
