Gossip/CR Hooks Meme
Are there people your characters are talking about all the time? Gossip they're always sharing? Someone they just fucking hate in a way they don't or can't hide? Welcome to the gossip meme y'all, where you might find some CR hooks. Format shamelessly stolen from the Handwaved CR memes.
1. Post a comment with your character's name & cabin number in the header, and give us an idea of who they talk about and in what contexts. Be as vague or specific as you like!
2. If you're up for it talk about why they think these things of other characters so people might have an idea of what they heard about them/the implications they can glean about that relationship.
3. Profit! (And maybe you can grab some threads; does your character hate being talked about? Enemies escalate their shit because Keep My Name The Fuck Out Of Your Mouth? Just think a particular bit of gossip might be more fun to do IC?)

Deputy Pratt || Cabin 141
That means YOU: Ava & Peter, Nobunaga & Klaus, Marc & Steven, Erin & Crabb, Arthur and... John? Crichton? They haven't figured that one out yet but they will! (Your days are numbered Rita and gWay. /points to eyes, points to you #soon)
no subject
For John's part he's not too social yet but depending on how his most recent interaction with Pratt went, he's either 'the cop' or 'that fucking cop' when he comes up in conversation :')

Erin Peters || Cabin 134
Friends
Erin is very warm and a little in awe of her friends, especially after The Price is Right. You might hear about...
- Johnny Summer, Erin's first friend aboard, hyped up as a listening ear, excellent bartender, gentleman, fashion expert, and keen eye on the community itself. Looking for Johnny? Erin'll happily say you can find him at Tauva through the day, or at the bars a-nights enjoying enrichment in his enclosure.
- Honoria Crabb ("Crabb"), Erin's girlfriend and yes she'll say that with an awed pride, beloved as a steady presence, keen detective, courageous friend, and excellent listener. Erin calls Crabb 'handsome' a lot and adores her crooked nose. You might get pointed at her on the sly because Erin thinks her girlfriend could use more friends.
- Cassandra de Rolo. Erin is very poorly trying to hide being through the moon over this lass, who she talks about as someone insightful, calm of mind, polite, curious, and safe. Sword fighters might get pointed at Cassandra for the novelty of being able to experience a style from another world, and other calm and courteous folks just in general.
- SecUnit, usually by reminding people that they can talk to its drones if they need to get a hold of it; a steady and thoughtful friend who can be a bit shy but has fascinating insights. If you're into films or painting SecUnit is the first name out of Erin's mouth. "Don't touch it, though, it doesn't like that any more than I do."
- Peter Smith. Speaking of art! If you're looking for a hobby, Peter also comes up as someone into art and specifically as someone willing to teach it. Erin thinks of him as a Proper Gentleman(tm), fondly warning that he can be a bit guarded but is insightful, compassionate, and very genuinely curious about other people. A good listener, and someone she'll direct teens specifically to - especially teens trying to grapple with having to grow up here, far from home. "Heard he just started dating Ava Starr."
- Ruby Rose. "She's so fun, you'll like her." Are you a nerd? An engineer? Are you into tinkering? Just try to stop Erin from suggesting you meet Ruby. Ruby also comes up if Erin invites you to tactics class, as one of the teachers there to counterbalance Erin's own ah, significantly no-nonsense teaching style.
- Bash St. Expedit; "he's gentle, ask him about coffee." Erin respects Bash's calm wisdom and reasoned compassion, and thinks highly of him as a host & friend. If you confess to troubles or confusion in love she might thoughtfully suggest him as someone to talk to ("It's been a hot minute since I was in a relationship myself").
- Undine Wells. Do you not know how the arcade works? Did you say the words 'what's boba tea'? Idly confess to thinking you might want to change your look, have a makeover, do you miss 'girl time' especially? Undine comes up. Erin actually withholds a lot about Undine, not talking much to other teens especially about her troubles as a child soldier. Adults might get more of Erin's worries.
- Ylva "the wolf". Erin is in denial about how bad she has it for Ylva; she describes both Ylva's humanoid form and her wolf one so people can know it's her either way, and says she's shy but very kind and fascinating to talk to. Erin calls Ylva a wolf and will be notably firm, then angry, if you try to call Ylva an elf or a human.
- Phil Connors, the very chill guy with the wings. Erin's worried about Phil but doesn't know what to do about it. She might be asking if you know what he likes or hobbies he might be into so she can get his mind off the horrors of Halloween.
- Darcy. Not a friend exactly but if you want to learn to fight, if you seem like you're nervous living on the ship, Darcy comes up as the leader of fight club and someone completely trustworthy and reliable. Surprise of all surprises if you show up to fight club and find Erin giving Darcy as much space as possible and not talking to her. Something happened there. Erin does mention that Darcy is part of a pirate crew newly led by Izzy Hands but admits she has exactly no details on what that entails.
- Ossie & Giles, most often spoken of as a pair, True Gentlemen(tm) who can be relied on for listening ears, advice on social situations like throwing parties or making amends, and gone to in case of trouble. Erin trusts them with her life and isn't shy about saying so.
- Dimitri, the polite young man whose 'r' sounds don't stop rolling. Erin's worried about him, too, and is a bit more open about it. Adults with experience in battle might be asked to check in on him; teenagers with similar experiences too. Erin thinks of Dimitri as someone wise and compassionate.
- Tendi. Literally any time you think you might need a doctor, Erin suggests Tendi, talking her up as someone bright and optimistic who can treat ills with a minimum of pain. Erin knows Tendi feels left out by the community and wants to give her the chance to do her job. Where's Tendi? She's in the infirmary most days, ready to work! You should go see her!
- Crichton; hilarious and warm. Erin freely admits she doesn't know Crichton very well yet but she's liked what she's met so far. People who don't like to be touched get a gentle warning to tell him that to his face.
- Vance Hopper. Adults might get pointed at Vance if Erin thinks they can teach him something related to his expressed goals of protecting others and defeating the Captain but who she picks and chooses here is pretty selective; steady presences, thinkers, and strategists are greatly preferred. If you admit that your magic can be taught she might ask if you're willing to try him out as a student.
- Helena Adams, "my new roommate!". Usually described as courteous & prim, Erin talks Helena up as a student of literature and poetry and says she's very comfortable to be around. There's a protective concern here. Erin doesn't see Helena as a fighter and given that their roommates she takes her safety very seriously. Warriors and heavies might be gently asked to keep an eye on her when she's around.
- Lieutenant Tayrey. Are you looking into the nature of the ship? Tayrey comes up so you can coordinate research; Erin describes her as someone friendly but says she has a deep attachment to forms of manners from back home that can make her prickly. If something seems too weird to just politely go with, try stating, without judgement, what you heard the gesture as and see if you can move from there.
Annoyances
- Nobunaga. Sadly the only person to make this part of the list thus far. Erin doesn't go on tears about the guy but even after the expedition he's not the first person she's picking to be on her team for anything. If you bring up that you're going to start associating with him Erin warns you to draw your boundaries very clearly; if he steps over them, she's happy to break her foot off in his ass. Yes she's still mad about the incident more than a month ago why do you ask.
Is your character not listed here? I might have just forgotten, or Erin might think of you as private enough to not want people yeeted at you like a pillow. Feel free to ask/remind me!

Dedue Molinaro, Cabin #126 (Tw for mention of genocide in the Nobunaga part)
Dimitri: So much of Dedue’s life has revolved around Dimitri for the past several years that there is a high probability he will come up in conversation, or even just in Dedue’s thoughts during conversation. Dedue isn’t sure how to refer to Dimitri since he can’t use his name and can’t use “His Highness,” so he won’t bring Dimitri up unless someone else does first. But once you get him going, he will tell you how much he admires Dimitri’s kindness and sense of justice and empathy. Dedue also worries deeply about Dimitri’s mental and physical health and is always looking for ways to improve it. He will refer to Dimitri as a “colleague,” not as a friend.
Others He’s Interacted With
Erin: First person Dedue met on the ship. He was kind of put-off by her jokingly saying that his being from Duscur didn’t matter anymore because he’ll never go back, while pressing him on his romantic feelings for Dimitri. He also heard Erin get referred to as a “slaver” during the game show, and he was kind of creeped out by that information too. But he also doesn’t know all the context and likes to get the details before making a judgement.
Darcy: He likes her so far, and he trusts her because she’s good friends with Dimitri. AND she said she made sure Dimitri was sleeping and eating before Dedue arrived! Major points there. Dedue has offered to start training with her after his injuries heal.
Watson: Patched Dedue up after his arrival. He seems nice, and Dimitri likes him so that makes Dedue more likely to trust him. Dedue doesn’t really know him that well yet though.
Giles: Too similar!!! Dedue is overwhelmed every time they talk. Especially because Giles seems to read him better than he can read himself at times. But Dedue also likes talking to him because he knows Giles gets him in a way that most people don’t. He’s just also not sure he’s ready to actually hear what Giles has to say.
Ossie: Similar to his feelings about Giles but a bit less intense. Also, Ossie has invited Dedue into his cottage and is allowing him to plant seeds in the garden, which makes Dedue super happy. He already feels a lot of familiarity with Ossie.
Bastion: They haven’t actually held a conversation together but they are garden buddies on the deck.
SecUnit: They’ve done separate art projects together. Parallel play.
Chrissy: Dedue thinks she’s nice. He worries about her because he saw her sleeping at the library a few times.
Nobunaga: It’s very much an “extrovert adopts introvert” energy there. Nobunaga has been very curious about learning about Dedue’s culture while sharing information about his own. Dedue does not yet know that Nobunaga is responsible for a genocide and has imperialistic goals. This is gonna be a big freaking deal once he finds out, considering Dedue is a survivor of a genocide.
I don’t remember off the top of my head who else he’s talked to yet, but I am always open to more rping.
Phil Connors, cabin 137
- May occasionally refer to SecUnit in passing as someone he spends time with sometimes, and will refer to it as "he" unless corrected, which is something I prefer to handwave.
- Brings up Darcy unprompted more often than anyone else, which is to say, not very much. It's also rarely about her, because he knows she's a pretty secretive kid. It's usually something like "you know, Darcy was telling me about how sabres are..." or "I've only ever given one driving lesson, and it was to Darcy..." et cetera.
- If it comes up, will offer up Ossie as fantastic lunch and dinner company.
- ... May sometimes ask unprompted if a person knows Maeve, and if they do, he'll ask how she's doing.
- "You know--if you haven't seen him already, and you're looking for a good cocktail, there's a gentleman who likes to post up behind the bar at Hurikane..."
- May mention César as someone who is a whip-smart engineer and very compassionate, but also very distractable. It's kind of charming though.
- If it comes up, Erin is a bit of a touchy topic with him, but not a hostile one. He'll be very insistent that he's grateful for her help and he likes her company. But there's... something a little tense between them. Not from a fight or an argument or anything. (Never spoken: It's just that, like a radiant, polished mirror that emphasizes every part of you so much that it's hard to look at, including your hideous flaws, he sees maybe a little too much of himself in her story.)

April Caouette || Cabin 128
There's too many of these opinions to list out, but if you comment I can give you a quick overview of shit April has said (if they had anything to say)
Broadly though, if you're supernatural and being low-key about it April isn't a snitch; she'd only mention that half of things to fellow supernatural creatures and even then Ossie's probably the only one to get the actual details if he asks.
Otherwise April probably has an opinion they've shared with Crichton, Arthur, Ossie, and/or Erin

Valdis | 105
Editing to say, She does mention other characters in her thoughts!
Oswald Wuthridge, Cabin 123
For everyone outside of his closer CR, however, you may notice that Ossie seems to talk as if he's better friends with whoever he's talking about than he actually is. Nothing egregious, just... friendlier than he maybe should be. Implying he knows them better than he perhaps actually does.
no subject
pray april does not catch him doing this about them.
April however is just some encouragement away from doing the exact same thing though, so they both could probably have entire conversations about other characters like this and that's fair and fine!

jeff | cabin 103
One noticeable thing about the way Jeff talks about others is (SO FAR) he's always got something positive/complimentary to say, not in a way that seems like he's TRYING to be nice, but in a way that suggests he has a genuinely positive impression of others...
...in a way that doesn't always totally gel with reality. Like, he'll talk about Maximilien as if the dude's 1) his friend and 2) definitely cares about people's well-being (he just has a prickly sense of humor!).
He will say that Klaus has his shit together and is very healthy, and Sharky is the wisest, smartest man on the ship, Nobunaga is just really passionate about social justice, Pratt is Definitely Very Sane and practical, Peter Smith is very cool for an old guy, etc etc. He has yet to form a negative impression of anyone here, somehow.
(But I welcome people trying to get on Jeff's nonexistent Negative Gossip List)
Also the way Jeff talks about Bash makes it abundantly obvious that he's totally in love. Expect him to get gooey and sappy whenever Bash's name comes up.

John Crichton || Room 127
- He will gush about how much he loves his friends to his other friends. If you're his friend, he's probably singing your praises to someone else.
- In general, if he's had a bad time with someone he won't be shy about warning others. His incident meeting Maximilien for the first time is a good example. But he tends to be pretty optimistic, so he's willing to give most (not John) people the benefit of a doubt. Wrong him twice, however, and you're going on his naughty list for good.
Side note: he doesn't like being the topic of gossip himself because he's a little bit paranoid.
IDK I'm blanking on what else to say so comment here if you want me to be more specific.
Number 6 || Room 113
or you might see your poorly done portrait up around the ship, rip StedeIf you want to know in specific comment and I'll give you one.
