Handwaved CR Meme

The passengers have been living on this ship for a while now, and it's likely that they've fallen into certain habits and routines. Little things have become part of their day, from lunch dates with friends, to quiet nights in the library, or long-standing blood feuds. Even the newest passengers have likely found themselves some common haunts and familiar faces. This is a meme to talk about, flesh out, and collaborate on some of those behind-the-scenes moments and routines!

1. Post a comment with your character's name & cabin number in the header, and give us an idea of what sort of things they get up to around the ship! Be as detailed or as vague as you'd like.
2. Talk about what kind of handwaved CR you can inspire! Is your character the type to stop and chat with friends on the promenade? Are they consistently the highest score on multiple arcade cabinets? IDK, you tell me!
3. When you look at other characters' routines, you might notice some moments that line up! Even if your characters are total strangers, they might see each other at the buffet every day, or maybe they're unwittingly competing for the high score on DDR. And close CR might mean weekly dinners, book clubs, sparring sessions every morning... like I said, this is where you shine!!
4. This is also a good chance to handwave characters exchanging contact information, generating some more inbox threads!

TLDR: write about your character's life on the ship and then compare notes with other people, find CR, ???, profit

Yes to all of this!! I think Pal would have asked at some point post- Battle Royale. Not immediately because he does have some tact, but a little while after. He appreciates Jade's support and participation! :D

And oooo yes, he may need to start a "Second Death" phase of the experiment ahahah! I'm happy to handwave that it has already happen or bring it up when they have their nerdfest, whichever you prefer!

WHICH REMINDS ME: I just remembered that Pal was going to give Jade a nerdy lab day for his birthday. If you still want to do that, I can start something up for us! But if you've got too much going on, we can do it later instead!

Sometimes Fio quietly sits across from him while he works on his notes! Except for Fio, she'll be hard at work doing crafts like making cranes or doodling. Or reading a picture book.

The first couple of times this was a mildly surprising development, but by now he finds it a very pleasant event when it happens! Absolutely tends to pick places with at least one open chair across the way for the possibility of Fio dropping by if he's otherwise by himself nowadays :') He's never too immersed to give the writing a pause and at least ask her how her day has been/what project she might be working on this time! Before a nice mutual quiet afterwards for a bit, probably...

Actually it occurs to me that Jade has probably attended at least a couple of these pool deck movie nights by now...I'm figuring Natsuno probably explained the rough concept of movies to him at some point, and his takeaway has been "recordings of very elaborate plays" more or less lmao. Has absolutely humorously lambasted the poor life choices of the cast or nonsensical supernatural concepts of the cheesy horror movies...and has probably noted Natsuno's slight pivot away from said horror movies lately too.....

Whoops, I never replied to this?? But yes! I will gladly get things started, and I love the idea of discussing the Round 2 Blood experiment as part of the thread. Will let you know when I've written something up! And we can, of course, backtag it forever. :D

Erin Peters || Cabin 134

Habits

- Erin is never available between 8 AM and noon; she's guarding SecUnit while it sleeps, though if anyone asks she only says she has a standing appointment.

- Erin can be found in Tauva several times a day, smoking. Every now and again she wanders into Fate's Design instead but she never stays long; these are essentially emergency smokes at a closer location.

- Though she usually eats at Windjammer where she can get a shocking amount of sweets and proteins, Erin has taken to eating sushi every now and again after fighting Siffleur. She's very open to being joined at these meals!

- Though she doesn't often read there, Erin is in and out of the library returning and checking out books. At irregular intervals she has to walk of shame a pile of braille fiction back there when she can't work up the will to live to return them on time.

- Erin takes a drink or two most evenings. She is rarely actually drunk but don't be surprised if she's kinda buzzed on the way back to her cabin or towards...

- ...Late-night visits to Bellona Theater, where she sings. She's looking for privacy but if you walk in on her she'll talk. Good luck getting her to keep singing, though. Thursday mornings near 1 AM she meets up with Tear here to try and practice instruments and to share music.

- Erin is back at fight club! She's taken a step back from an active teaching role in tactics class, given the events of Price is Right; she might need to be talked back into being more active.

- Semi-regularly, Erin can be found in the Infinite Tommy Bahama, exploring the store or looking for Siffleur. She tends to stay in the shallow reaches, reluctant to provoke Bahamanuel and its young or to end up lost. She's still stealing laces and elastics from the clothes to make rope, less for any practical purpose at this point and more to have something to do with her hands when she's sitting around or can't sleep. Do you want some weird low-strength rope? She'll give it away with goodwill.

- After being introduced to boba tea by Undine and some interesting coffee by Bash, Erin now frequents Sand Dollars.

- Why is she always eating candy

- Why is she always armed

- A vague curiosity about the magics of other worlds has become an attentive interest. She can and will just sit there attentively while people infodump even the most high-level esoteric shit at her.

Frequently Seen With...

- Both before and after The Price is Right Erin can be seen around with Crabb and/or Cassandra; snagging them to share a meal, heading to the library together, exploring the ship. She thinks the world of both women and any amount of observation shows it on her face, she's got it so bad.

- Before (attempted) bed at night Erin swaps gossip with Helena, often about relationships aboard the ship (who's dating or associated with who, the emergent factions aboard, etc).

- If Johnny is at a given bar at night, that's the bar Erin is at. She's not always necessarily physically near him but she's very happy to share space like a cat.

- Erin still has not consciously noticed the extent to which she's been bonding with the teens aboard but she's very happy to see them at any time; she always at least says hi, and given her history of doing so might be the person to ask to get enabled in minor acts of rule-breaking...or to listen to difficult questions.

Sorry for the late reply! And ahhh there weren't many open opportunities to thread in Nov due to me having to catch up with a lot of her current CR. From their little meeting, Fio does think Cass is friendly enough that she'd of course greet her hello back. c:

We can find a way for these two to interact again in the future perhaps when I do a more open top-level or I can throw her at Cass!

You know, this is probably less a handwave CR and more of a prompt/note to self for me, but while April probably tries to avoid talking to Jeff (but has definitely seen and heard him), an uncanny valley gremlin boy (furby) would draw them in the same way a very cute dog would to someone normal.

By that I mean while they've met several times (as in literally, April coming off as either a completely new face or one maybe met once before whose name just slips the mind) and April has been in earshot of his performances, they've probably been watching him when he's out with his furby and i will at some point have them meet him just to see the real live furby.

Given that Skulduggery was one of the first people Jack got to order drinks for him, he's probably invited/requested Skulduggery out to drink a few times. Even if it ends with them grabbing a handful of bottles to restock Jack's personal supplies, he probably tries to like, slip in an actual conversation over a drink just to make it feel more normal and not like a business transaction.

(Though this probably didn't happen in October for Various Reasons including Skulduggery being busy, Jack being on-edge, and the bars being open lol).

Conversation topics are light and mainly about the goings-on on the ship, what he's been up to, new people he's seen, interesting encounters he witnessed, etc etc, and he wouldn't pry too much into Skully's business either.

Otherwise they probably pass each other regularly at night too since Jack still wanders around the ship when he's feeling restless.

Jack probably just gives a nod of respect when and if he sees her at the buffet since he'll have a heaping plate himself. He smells a little funny from all the genetic modification and, uh, also through the later part of November he's going to have Siffleur's scent clinging to him, which I'm noting since Daisy might recognize that.

given that jade Knows about vile, he'd probably know that skuls dropped the armor into the ocean. tbh jade vibe checking him after he gets back to make sure he isn't like, more crazy or something is hilarious to me idk why

Oh yeah, Jack's absolutely not prying about the binder or anything ship related, Jack copes by not thinking about it, but he's game to talk if Skulduggery brings it up first.

If Jack spots her on the rare night time excursion he's probably relieved to see she's got company now, being completely unaware that she was one of the possessed or why she might need her close CR now lol.

Otherwise he's probably said hi now and then while waiting for coffee at Sand Dollars and complimented her art or paper cranes. And he always returns her greetings because that's just what you do when a kid says hi!

He doesn't need to know about those sad things!!! She's still scared about the things that went down, but she's happier by this time of the month, yay!!! Also I've decided she calls him Mr. Jack and definitely greets him in return. c:

- Crichton likes to nickname people. Give him long enough and he will think of one for you--pray it isn't terrible because you get no choice.

- He's sociable and usually very open to approach, with a friendly public demeanor. However, if he thinks he's alone where no one can see, he'll let that slip and can be glimpsed looking into the distance with a morose and contemplative expression instead. There's a lot going on beneath the surface that he doesn't like to show openly.

- He keeps a general fitness routine going. Every morning you can spot him running laps around the upper deck, and then doing general strength training like push-ups and sit-ups on a yoga mat after. (Gotta keep those cakes fresh)

- His clothing choices alternate between leather on leather and more relaxed selections from the Tommy Bahama. (His Leather vest is slightly scorched and bubbled now from having been set on fire but he refuses to let it go.) When wearing Tommy Bahama, he favors the color blue and tropical prints that remind him of home. No matter what he's wearing, he will always have a pulse pistol strapped to his right thigh in a holster. It's name is "Winona."

- Crichton and Arthur (THEY WERE ROOMMATES) have begun dating and while they are both bashful about being out and public about it, they are both very often joined at the hip. They always go to meals together and often where one is present, the other can usually be found nearby. They might think they are being subtle, but they really, really are not.

- Crichton has agreed to start going to poetry club for Nobunaga. He's not as bad at it as he thought he would be but he's also not... great.

- [cw: drugs/addiction] Crichton has gotten more of his addictive alien substance (Lakah) which he has been using to numb his emotional pain and calm his anxiety. He's being very private about that aspect, but observant people could notice he's sometimes bringing a small black vial to his nose to sniff, followed by a little jerk of his head. He becomes visibly more jittery as he comes down off the drug again, as well.

- He gets really cagey if anyone suggest doing any medical scans on him (especially his head) and is generally very paranoid about things that have to do with mind-reading and manipulation.

- Related to the above point: Crichton has a second personality named Harvey who is remaining quiet for now but who has reared his head a couple of times now--enough to make Crichton question if he might still be around and is just playing dead. Stay tuned for more hints of that and for future drama.

- Peter Smith is not his true name, but it IS what he has always introduced himself as while here. Recently, at the Price Is Right he got his "name" Number 6 called publicly and people are welcome to have seen that outburst and possibly put 3 and 3 together.

- He has an early morning fitness routine you could set your watch to. Aerobic jogging first, then boxing on the punching bag, then he finishes by doing fencing drills on the sport deck. He is always open to friendly duels. He does insist on wearing proper fencing masks for safety.

- He's started only having a light breakfast before his exercise so he can save his appetite to eat lunch with Ava when she's up. He also takes his evening meals with Ava and Fio (and sometimes Undine) at 6:00 pm. He stops in for tea around 3:30 at Sun Dial and will usually bring a book or a sketch pad with him unless he's got company. He rarely ever can be seen eating sweets.

- He is dating Ava and is being very open about it. They will often be seen together and they will be sticking to each other during excursions, especially. He's making it a point to be very out and proud about his love for her and he will just have to bear with the teasing from people who knew him in his "never getting attached" phase. Ava and he can sometimes be prone to PDA, sorry not sorry.

- He very obviously has a hard time staying still or idle, so it's easy to find him pacing the decks, or pacing the library looking for something to read, or trying to calm himself with a game of cards at the casino. He has a sketch pad and pastels and he enjoys sketching people and places around the ship. He will usually offer the sketch to his model after he's finished it. He also will often offer to give drawing lessons to anyone who looks interested.

- He always looks restless. When he's not stuffing his hands in his pockets to conceal it, his fingers are always twiddling or twitching with spillover of all that pent-up energy.

- He generally dresses in some form of suit or business clothing. He likes to look sharp. His hairstyle is the same boring side-combover every single day. He's a creature of habit.

- He often has trouble sleeping, so he can be found during late hours too, sometimes with a drink in hand, up pacing the deck.

- He's an occasional smoker who favors cigars now (because his doctor advised him to give up cigarettes for his health) so he can routinely be found in Tauva with one in hand, often looking very deeply lost in thought.

- He is giving several people fighting/drill lessons at this point and/or meeting for practice sessions. Ruby is learning hand-to-hand, He's fencing Darcy regularly, and he's doing shooting/target practice with Johnny regularly. If I missed any others (or you want in on lessons) give me a shout!

Six, Cabin 113

* Six does a lot of walking around the ship, keeping an eye on things. Particularly after the whole incident where things started breaking down which led up to awful. He naturally walks very quietly, so he might give you a bit of a start. Not intentionally...usually.
* He will collect extra supplies for an emergency stash he and Number 6 Peter Smith keep in their room just in case shit goes haywire again.
* He also collects rare booze on excursions to add to the "This ship is bullshit" stash they also keep in their room.
* At 2AM every day, he goes up to the sports deck to train until 6AM. Anybody can go up and watch him as he fights imaginary enemies and practices with his magna blades. He will likely hear you coming because of training.

He's not the most easily-approachable guy. People need to show him via actions, not just words, that they can be trusted. Past Trauma and his old lifestyle instilled in him a need to be immediately suspicious of others. It's not you; it's him.
