Handwaved CR Meme

The passengers have been living on this ship for a while now, and it's likely that they've fallen into certain habits and routines. Little things have become part of their day, from lunch dates with friends, to quiet nights in the library, or long-standing blood feuds. Even the newest passengers have likely found themselves some common haunts and familiar faces. This is a meme to talk about, flesh out, and collaborate on some of those behind-the-scenes moments and routines!

1. Post a comment with your character, and give us an idea of what sort of things they get up to around the ship! Be as detailed or as vague as you'd like.
2. Talk about what kind of handwaved CR you can inspire! Is your character the type to stop and chat with friends on the promenade? Are they consistently the highest score on multiple arcade cabinets? IDK, you tell me!
3. When you look at other characters' routines, you might notice some moments that line up! Even if your characters are total strangers, they might see each other at the buffet every day, or maybe they're unwittingly competing for the high score on DDR. And close CR might mean weekly dinners, book clubs, sparring sessions every morning... like I said, this is where you shine!!
4. This is also a good chance to handwave characters exchanging contact information, generating some more inbox threads!

TLDR: write about your character's life on the ship and then compare notes with other people, find CR, ???, profit

Ruby Rose, Room 108

- Can be regularly seen training up on the sports deck with her scythe, making sure not to get too close to anyone else since as far as she knows no one else really has protective shielding like she does and, y'know, scythe. But she's always down for training buddies. If you watch her long enough you will see her turn into a streak of red petals and nyoom super fast through the air.

- Will also attend fight club when its on, but because there's more people avoids the scythe and either focused on using the rifle mode, on trying to build her hand-to-hand skills, maybe trying out other weapons, and also Erin asked for her help teaching small-unit-tactics so she's involved in that too.

- Swims pretty regularly. Also frequents the gym for basic workout stuff.

- She mostly eats at the buffet and tends to pick a few familiar foods over and over again. If you see her with coffee, it's loaded with milk and sugar. If you see her with tea, it's not and she favours like oolong teas and so on. Besides the buffet you might catch her getting ice cream.

- She frequents the library, mostly sitting down with either a copy of Fairy Tales of Remnant from her world or some other books that she's decided to try or people have recommended. Always down for more recommendations. Usually sat on the floor.

- Plays arcade games in playback sometimes, will definitely challenge you. Has good reflexes and is great at things that require that or aim.

- Has occasional nightmares and so ends up wandering the deck late at night to clear her head.

- As of October she will occasionally be on the sports deck running maintenance on her scythe-rifle with a toolkit she just got. Regular little engineer/mechanic, grease smears and all.

- Be aware the only times this girl takes off either her red hooded cloak or red-lined white hooded cloak are to sleep, shower, swim, or occasionally when doing workouts. The hood is rarely up, though.

- Clarke did warn her there might be people in and out of their room, and though she'll have been trying to keep out of the way people who know Clarke might have reason to have at least bumped into her once or twice.

- Around! She's friendly, if socially awkward sometimes, so if she's seen you around she's probably at least said hi.

Training!

Honoria Crabb, Room 129

- Regularly works out in Calgona, tends to focus on the punching bag and also strength stuff; she's pretty damn strong, honestly, it's just not obvious under layers of clothes. Gets her running in on the sports deck in the mornings.

- Will also attend fight club when it's on, sometimes. She is almost solely a hand-to-hand brawler but she doesn't have terrible aim either. Not trained, very self-taught, though Erin's going to try train her a bit.

- Frequents Tauva. She's not a smoker herself, but she's used to people smoking around her and she likes the whiskeys there. Sits around and drinks, but also scribbling in a notebook about everything from theories and records about the ship, to things back home, to just... random thoughts.

- Swings by Hurikane mostly when Johnny's there mixing drinks, but you still might have seen her around.

- Mostly eats at the buffet, but occasionally gets something at the Drunken Sailor. Sometimes sits in Sand Dollars to get coffee. Sits around the lounge watching folks sometimes, especially around excursion sign-ups when those come around.

- Goes through the books in the library occasionally, not really to read for their own sake but to try and get a sense of more modern media for the sake of understanding the Captain's shit. Might enjoy some like, mystery/crime/whatever books for their own sake but there's equal odds she gets frustrated at bad ones.

- Wandering. Whenever she's not doing something else, she's probably going to be wandering because staying still sucks.

- Occasionally, the life-size plushie she got of a little red French bulldog is with her when she's somewhere taking notes. Give her weird looks at your own peril, she might've called you on it if you did.

- Loves to just sit and throw thoughts back and forth with someone. Gotta keep the brain active.

- Basically solely wears button-downs, whether plain or recently she's added some plaid Tommy Bahama shirts, and sensible trousers; occasionally stretches to a full on casual suit. Has begun embracing more clothing options in general and leaning into butch styling more and more.

- Introduces herself as Honoria Crabb, but immediately says everyone just calls her Crabb.

- Predominantly eats french fries chips. Occasionally at Drunken Sailor if the others are cold, but she accidentally thinks the dining hours are meaningful, so she'll try to show at 5:29 on the dot.

- Pink & yellow blur. She likes to run everywhere.

- Definitely hits up the dance club and tries to drag wallflowers out, but she's super kind and gentle and will give space readily.

Shi Qingxuan | Room 126

🍃 Shi Qingxuan is obnoxiously social. Obnoxiously. As told by his brother's friend in canon, "When he gets impulsive, he drags anyone nearby along with him." Feel free to imagine your character has been the victim of this! Fun things, ridiculous things, drinking games, arcade games...

🍃 Shi Qingxuan does not need to eat or sleep. He still eats for fun, but he's also up at all hours, wandering around and hanging out in different places... Text him at 3am and he will still readily reply!

🍃 For handwaved introductions, he'll generally just introduce himself as "Shi Qingxuan," unless the other character introduced themself with a title, then he'd give his own title as "Wind Master Qingxuan" + his actual name. He's polite in a way that can come across as formal in modern English, so he defaults to "Mr. So-and-so," "Lady So-and-so," "young master," etc. It's just whatever feels appropriately polite and respectful to him. He'll switch to whatever someone asks to be called, though, with no questions asked, so let me know if there's a certain way a character would ask to be addressed for handwaving!

🍃 You can assume that he's exchanged numbers with your character if they've had some friendly interactions (played out or handwaved)! Afterwards, they will fall victim to random messages in the form of asking to hang out/go see something, sharing gossip, the occasional jokes, and some "how are you"s if he hasn't seen them around their shared hangouts in a while.

🍃 The places Shi Qingxuan hangs out the most are Sand Dollars for trying various drinks and tiny pastries (and then bothering anyone nearby for a chat!), Hurikane for his wine-drinking and drinking game needs, and the pool bar for the alcohol as well as the fresh air and sunshine! He also wanders around the Infinite Tommy Bahama sometimes in hopes of one day finding something nice (and sometimes giving his opinion on different getups one can put together from the selection. He also likes just hanging around on the pool deck, using his fan to create some natural AC for himself, and has probably lounged in the hot tubs some evenings.

🍃 Lately, he's been in the arcade playing the crane game a lot. He still hasn't won the very important hairpin he said he'd get for Rita over a month ago, and only he remembers this.

🍃 He currently styles himself in Tommy Bahama clothing, usually with long pants and tanktops under button-ups (in male form) and flowy dresses (in female form). He keeps his hair pulled into a high ponytail, a bun, or a half-down/half-bun style all the time. His hair is never loose unless he's caught, like, before he finishes styling himself in his room or something. He still wears a bunch of jewelry and looks expensive, though.

🍃 Lastly, he has both male and female appearances and uses both forms freely. Characters are welcome to have seen both/either. He isn't hiding his identity either way, but if he's met someone once, he won't reintroduce himself unless it's obvious that they don't recognize him.

He's called Requin! He's based off a very real dog her detective partner owns back home, who happens to be French so his name is French for shark.

César Salazar | Room 107

FAMILY:
- César spends nights in room 102 with his fiancés (Johnny Summer businessorlibation and John Watson lightconductor). Exceptions are generally Plot Relevant. They aren't hiding it.
- Not much PDA. Hand-holds, arm around shoulders, arm-in-arm, quick smooch, etc.
- Rich Goranski firewalled is their adopted son; they're not hiding that, either
- Spends time and meals with one or both fiancés, Rich, or all of them (or friends) but also spends time alone
- Rich and César like to play in the arcade; Rich often wins

Locations:
- Lifts weights in the spa gym, runs on the sports deck, and uses the saunas
- Reads in the library
- Spreads out crafting projects sometimes between all restaurants and the atrium
- Does laundry, gets clothes, likes coffee and bubble tea, does normal human things
- Can be occasionally seen ripping stuff off the walls/floors/seats/decorations for crafting supplies (but not in October with the auto-regen environment off)

CR:
- Wears weighted waistcoats/vests over dress or Hawaiian shirts with a set of belt bags and knee-high equestrian boots. Wears hair in a tall quip, goatee is always perfect. Wears Tommy Bahama cologne. Looks like steampunk lite. Knows it. Outright says he's cosplaying and blames his fiancés.
- Will always stop and ask if people need help when they look lost/confused/tired/unable to decide on something/dying
- Will greet people with a friendly hello
- Will always take people in shock, meltdown, or shutdown to his room (107) and give them food/water/quiet/calm/weighted vest/tea/etc to recover with plenty of sympathy and without judgement
- Will explain tech, science, and emojis to anyone
- Will soon be starting a 'school' that may be called Skool McSkoolface with Cool S logo because he'll ask for help naming it
- Will invite anyone to sushi and teach them how to use chopsticks (not so much in October with the restaurant closed)
- Will loan out his tablet, which has a LOT of stuff (see: Data Hoarder below in next comment); cell phone has the same stuff, but that's his

EXTRA, SKIPPABLE DETAILS

- Comes off as strange, but it's just a mix of science brains + ADHD predominantly inattentive presentation; is more tangential and animated when he takes a med break; always overthinks yet sometimes misses glaringly obvious details; BIG EMOTIONS
- Can get overstimulated; usually goes into ADHD shutdown and rarely meltdown if that happens
- A bit socially awkward, hates confrontation, loves humanity/people, and often enthusiastic
- Certified in Mental Health First Aid, First Aid, and CPR
- Fails at text speak despite trying; mostly full sentences
- KNOWS TOO MUCH, god, the research I have to do for this asshole ([quantum] physics, AI, human body, and nanotechnology... but also some old school crafts); hilariously only knows tropes about magic
- Spanish ESL but now speaks English with an American accent; also knows French, Latin, and Japanese (b/c bad anime/manga translations and also robotics)

Fio | Room 116

Fashion - Fio's usual everyday wear is a black jumper dress with a white blouse. Her preferred colors are white, black, and gold, if she can get her hands on dresses in those color schemes. Other days she may be wearing the pink, checkered, and blue dresses that she picked up at the diner excursion. Or a very colorful flowery-patterned dress from the infinite Tommy Bahama. She always wears a capacity core attached to her left wrist, given to her by Jade. And a friendship bracelet from Darcy.

Plush Companions, Judith & Calcite (Nicknamed "Judy" and "Callie") - During the daytime, she will sometimes be accompanied by two stuffed animals: a teddy bear named Judith and a dragon named Calcite. Sometimes they are floating. Sometimes they'll not be floating and set aside like normal toys or in one arm. Both can be present. Or it's one or the other. It depends how I feel. In the case Fio happens to be awake and wandering in the evening, there will always be at least one stuffed animal present. They can also shoot if she tells them to. (Rita has also recently handed down her Estelle plushie to Fio... so if she can find a way to attach the doll to the back of her dragon plush, she might be bringing a third doll along with her in the future!)

Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner - She usually abides by a set schedule for breakfast and dinner, because she tries to be a good little girl that eats all her meals and gets in all her hours of sleep. She wakes up in the morning for breakfast. Lunchtimes vary. Around 6PM, she has dinner together with Ava. She gets ready for bedtime around 8PM or 9PM. This is assuming she hasn't had any sleeping problems.

She's a very friendly child, so she may happily greet your character "Good morning!" in the hallway and tell them, "Good night!" on the way back to her cabin.

Nightmares? - She has sporadic nightmares and will occasionally wake up in a cold sweat or tears. In canon, she has nightmares every night but it's pretty much watered down here to being more random because the player can't handle that much. Clearly Fio is more powerful than I am! Mostly these are handwaved or they're mentioned in a sentence or two in brackets. Or they're referenced in prompts. On some rare evenings or in the middle of the night, she can be found wandering aimlessly on the ship with her dolls.

Occasionally, she can be heard humming to herself some of the tunes that Skulduggery hummed to her when helping lull her to sleep on some nights. She hums more upbeat versions in the daytime when she's in a better mood. After being introduced to the aranara during the beach excursion, she might also be found singing their songs!

Library, Sand Dollars - In the library, she mainly reads children's picture books or may be found drawing. She likes most stories, as long as they have happy endings. She sometimes reads the same book over and over. If not the library, she can also be found sitting at Sand Dollars with a mug of hot cocoa. When she isn't drawing or reading, she may be working on making 1000 cranes since Natsuno taught and told her that it'll grant a wish! Her project to wish for everyone's happiness will probably be finished by next year...

Gym, Sports Deck - Once a week, she'll practice some basic ballet moves, usually in the gym. She doesn't have a ballet teacher, so she mostly practices the same moves by memory. Or on the sports deck, when she wants to be under the sun. Sometimes she'll watch other people practice.

Around! - She roams around pretty much everywhere with her dolls and likes to pretend that she's exploring! Kid things like jumping over cracks, dodging "lava" on the floor, maybe pretending she's exploring an abandoned ruin or something! She'll talk out loud to her plushies when she's alone, like they're companions. She similarly treats the infinite Tommy Bahama like a playground and tries to run towards the endless back wall because that's fun to her. Feel free to come fish her out!

I might be forgetting some stuff, but this is most of what I can think of at the moment...

Also, there's a good he smashed the crane machine at least once, going "just get the fucking thing"

vance hopper / room 132

• Goes to bed late, wakes up late, classic teenager sleep schedule when he has no school or anything else to worry about.

• Eats whenever he gets hungry and usually just sits alone. He kind of acts like he's in prison and other people might steal his food at any given moment, because he guards his plate and holds his fork in his clenched fist so he can stab with it if needed. He mostly just eats at Windjammer.

• He spends a lot of time at Playback, mostly on pinball because that's his game but he's starting to branch out to the newer stuff as well, especially anything that involves fighting or shooting. He's very competitive and wants to actually get good at the games he plays, and will not give you time to practice or learn the controls before kicking your ass if you're a beginner. Git gud, filthy casual.

• He also goes to the sports deck to work on his fitness. He isn't exactly an athlete but he wants to stay tough and enjoys physical tasks enough to pass the time.

• While he walks around a lot to stay in the know, he's used to being on the fringes of social groups and is hesitant to engage with a lot of casual conversation or fun social activities unless someone drags him. Both because he doesn't want to cramp his style and because he knows he's a bully who hasn't made a very good impression here.

• Spends a lot of time making sure his hair looks good.

The image of these two just passing idly on the ship is kinda funny to me. Shi Qingxuan would be lonely, so he'd probably try bugging Natsuno to chat or have snacks with him or play a game. :'')

Points at eyes... points at you... Shi Qingxuan is mentally sorted out as "Pollux's bestie" in Castor's mind which doesn't sound very flattering but is actually a very big compliment. I think he should and probably will get to see more normal-passing Castor because of this, especially since as a god unrelated to the Greek pantheon he's probably getting a Better Castor than most of the people on this ship to begin with.

As for actually doing things... they can hang out in Sand Dollars or something, maybe... Does Shi Qingxuan have any ideas for how they might get some stems onto these paper flowers? :thinking: There's a reason for this actually... Anyway! Cute texts should definitely be handwaved too! Maybe even threaded if you ever wanna! I think they should gossip! All three of them!!!
