He might be dead. They, the two of them, and everyone else on this ship, might be dead. It's a thought that should make him panic, but he doesn't, because... it doesn't seem too outlandish, really. Maybe he is dead. He might as well have been dead for months now. If he's really being honest with himself, he didn't think he'd make it to his next birthday, anyway.
He tries to return Steven's smile, before glancing down, nervously tugging at some threads hanging off the holes in his jeans. A little fidgety gesture, just to keep his fingers busy.
"What if this is it? Just a long boat ride to nowhere."
Because as much as he'd like to hope he'd end up somewhere nice, he doesn't think that's in the cards for him.
