Handwaved CR Meme

The passengers have been living on this ship for a while now, and it's likely that they've fallen into certain habits and routines. Little things have become part of their day, from lunch dates with friends, to quiet nights in the library, or long-standing blood feuds. Even the newest passengers have likely found themselves some common haunts and familiar faces. This is a meme to talk about, flesh out, and collaborate on some of those behind-the-scenes moments and routines!

1. Post a comment with your character's name & cabin number in the header, and give us an idea of what sort of things they get up to around the ship! Be as detailed or as vague as you'd like.
2. Talk about what kind of handwaved CR you can inspire! Is your character the type to stop and chat with friends on the promenade? Are they consistently the highest score on multiple arcade cabinets? IDK, you tell me!
3. When you look at other characters' routines, you might notice some moments that line up! Even if your characters are total strangers, they might see each other at the buffet every day, or maybe they're unwittingly competing for the high score on DDR. And close CR might mean weekly dinners, book clubs, sparring sessions every morning... like I said, this is where you shine!!
4. This is also a good chance to handwave characters exchanging contact information, generating some more inbox threads!

TLDR: write about your character's life on the ship and then compare notes with other people, find CR, ???, profit

- Okie eats at pretty regular times, Stellar or Sand Dollars for breakfast, buffet for lunch, Stellar or Mikabo for dinner.
- Those who pay attention might notice that the more stressed he is, the more his buffet lunch goes from a pretty regular sampling platter to a horrible mixed abomination.
- He generally doesn't actively eat with anybody unless invited, but he's not opposed to being joined.
- He spends his off time doing one of three flavors of activity.
- Flavor 1: Try Not To Think (Physical). Hitting punching bags and lifting weights in the gym, running the track, swimming in the pool, using the side of the ship for wall ball, venturing into the Tommy Bahama to vandalize racks and displays. Idle energy is best exerted.
- Flavor 2: Try Not To Think (Mental). Poking at books in the library, solitaire in the lounge, sneaking into karaoke when he thinks no one will notice, taking pool towels into the spa to doodle on them with fingernail polish. For stubborn thoughts that still want to wander, give them something to do.
- Flavor 3: Be Doomed To Think (Spiritual). When staring out at the sea, or waiting on laundry to finish, or hiding away somewhere, sometimes you have to just let go and let yourself be anxious for a bit.
- Okie sleeps light and suffers from nightmares, which means he's often up and around at night at random intervals.
- When up at night, especially when nervous or after nightmares, he goes from lightly guarded to actively jumpy. When jumpy, he tends to hide himself away in strange places. Behind the Bric-a-Brac counter, behind the curtains on the theater stage, in the laundry room corner.
- He's not in his cabin super often, but he generally informs his roommate Nobunaga where he's going. If he's nervous hiding, however, the answer simply trends to be "out."

Ooo, good question! Hmm, there's a good chance that he would have mentioned them in passing. But if the thread is more fun if Cassandra doesn't know anything, then you can assume he didn't say anything about them or didn't say much.

Maeve's found it entertaining and curious that of everyone on this ship, Steven is the one that's been taking her on dates without actually calling it dates. It amuses me. Constantly. sjakdfn. ONE DAY

that's totally cool, skulduggery is definitely used to unfamiliar people being confused and creeped out by him!! he usually lets people approach him on their own terms, so there may have been one of those awkward introductory small-talk moments on the promenade, but otherwise, he'd let her come to him when she's up to dealing with him!!

i love and immediately accept all of this as game canon! ari gets to catch sight of clarke's half-disgusted, half-entirely on edge trepidation with horror movies because she half expects a clown to pop up around the corner. but still somehow finds the energy to be disheartened with the gory special effects bc blood doesn't gush like that from that area, there's no main artery, etc! countdown to when they boo and throw popcorn at the space-based campy sci-fi flicks together!!!

also their first interaction was tense but i fully believe an odd sort of respect would emerge from clarke watching ari doomsday prep like her. some folks don't take to heart that all these resources could stop magically restocking and we could all be left high and dry! gotta prepare while the beef jerky and prepackaged peanuts are still around! pls feel free to imagine any competition would end in clarke conceding and letting ari have the last bottle of advil, bc she appreciates she's not the only one around. (also bc she has 8+ months of stock in her room, like a true apocalypse rat)

and i almost don't wanna handwave a stair based interaction, what if we held onto that idea for a future thread and they could, idk, race or something. a lil bonding moment potentially???

Brilliant! At this point I don't think their first interaction is going to end well at all - but it's fine, Ari doesn't hold grudges over petty things, and the Earth skills advice on game day will make up for it, especially if they're having positive little handwavy interactions in the meantime too!

She'd definitely respect Clarke a lot more for the prepping! Ari was told that she didn't need to worry because the ship restocks 'by magic' and her thought process was just omg you're like children who have never been through a shortage. So frustrating for her. Clarke gets all the beef jerky, though - vegetarian Ari's survival instincts don't go quite that far ;)

And yes, let's save the stair interaction! You're right, it would makea fun thread.

I'm imagining these lil handwave interactions are a lot of ~significant and profound~ nods of recognition, space kid style and it's making me chuckle. And YES, ya can't take the girls from space outta space and expect them to rely on magic to feed themselves (ignore Clarke's intense magic envy, or don't it might be a fun thing for them to chat about later!). I saw that Ari's a vegetarian and admittedly snorted, since by default Clarke was vegan (soybean paste from what I could gather from canon) for the first 17 years of her life and is now just going wild on the meats.

Yes, absolutely! I love their different reactions to meat. Ari had 'lab-grown protein blocks' so she can relate, but to her meat just doesn't register as food. Just ew, why would you? But Clarke likely grew up knowing that people had eaten meat on Earth, so different perspective!

Early December sounds great, barring event-related shenanigans!

it's gonna be so fun once they get past initial sour first impressions and can actually compare and contrast the space experience! bonus points for pulling (checks notes) crichton, gideon, and pal into the space life debate lmfao

Jade Curtiss; Cabin 109

General;
‣ Jade can generally be encountered in the blue uniform pictured in his icons! There's a distinct military cut to its styling, and his bearing has that sort of alertness as well, so others are generally free to assume he must be some form of soldier back home.
‣ Otherwise it'll generally be the most boring men's dadwear he's managed to scrape from the Tommy Bahama. Or even a 50s business suit, on occasion, acquired from a past diner excursion.
‣ As stated above, he resides in cabin 109 and is Natsuno Yuuki's roommate! If you've visited Natsuno, the chances are moderate that Jade has also been in the room on occasion, usually poring over papers at his desk. He sleeps on the couch, and has been in a months-long low-key and very stupid (affectionate) feud with Natsuno over the fact that he called dibs on the real bed despite being a vampire that hardly even needs sleep.....
‣ As they hail from the same world, and he also considers her a close friend, chances are good that he tends to be around Tear Grants fairly often! Not always right by her side--though they seem to correspond fairly frequently--but sometimes just kinda...hanging around. At a casual distance. Totally doing something else, but. Maybe also eyeballing whoever she might be happening to interact with, on occasion...don't worry about this, it's fine,
‣ In the past he used to drop by places like Tauva moderately frequently for the drinks, with a penchant for wine particularly. After October especially, however, Jade has been...avoiding drinking much of anything at all, lately. Losing grip of his faculties for even a moment is--still an unsettling idea. Maybe he'll readjust eventually :')
‣ Speaking of October! Anyone that might have been embroiled in the Halloween Death Party is 100% free to have noticed the ridiculous wizard slapfight he ended up having with Rita's body there, especially him calling down an enormous bolt of lightning right before the pool deck collapsed! Truly a rare mage ham occasion he won't be having again for a little while...hopefully....

Daily routines;
‣ Gets up ungodly early, being yet another member of the ship-wide insomniac club! (It's for Childhood Eye Mistake-related reasons, though. ...Most of the time.) He's sorted and ready to be out and about by around 4am normally, but may start the day even earlier on occasion.
‣ Spends a couple hours going about his workout routine first thing in these very early hours: brisk laps about the sports deck, and hitting up various amenities at the gym. (Yes, he's in fact in Very Good shape, despite deceptive nerd appearances to the contrary...!) Every other day he takes himself through self-imposed drills and reps with his spear. Overall he tries to be very discreet and solitary about these physical activities, though, seemingly preferring to give others space over joining in exercise/sparring groups or anything like that.
‣ Also very occasionally can be found workshopping small variants of fonic artes, typically using the dummies or punching bags in the gym as targets. Tends to try ensuring he's the only one in the vicinity at a given time for this, though. (But people pretty good at concealing themselves from notice have possibly spotted this in passing anyhow!)
‣ Normally grabs himself a small breakfast after all this, sometimes a handful of foods from the buffet and sometimes just a dark coffee in Sand Dollars.
‣ Tends to frequent either the buffet or the dining hall for meals on the whole, so he's probably spotted you across the way at these venues at least once! Not always eating three meals a day. Seems to favor seafood (salmon dishes especially) more often, and generally avoids pork. Occasionally poring over notebooks alongside his food at the table, if eating alone
‣ On a typical quiet day he's generally either slowly and idly walking about checking through all levels of the ship for layout changes or new spaces, or hunkering down in some corner or another to work at his notes some more. He seems to do a lot of writing in general, in downtime! Sometimes it's at an outdoor promenade table while watching passerby on the walkway, and sometimes it's in more quiet venues like Sand Dollars or the library.
‣ Sometimes he can be found browsing books in the library in general too, though he isn't actually seen actively reading books from there too often. He's never actually finished one....fictional content just does not usually hold his interest long at all rip :( Honestly he probably seems rather low-key frustrated or resigned poking through the library shelves oftentimes lol
‣ Tends to be found wandering the ship very late into evening; normally he does retire to his cabin to wind down for the day before midnight, but after nastier events he'll hold out on being awake for quite some time. The night sky here bugs him a fair amount; it's much darker and emptier than he's used to, even after all this time. Sometimes he might want to compare star notes with anyone else awake and about on any of the outdoor decks.

Ari here also goes around wearing a blue military uniform all the time. Not the same one, but still. He'll get a polite nod from her if they pass while she's patrolling.

They've probably also encountered one another in the gym/sports deck at some point.
