He nods affirmatively. And he thinks he lived up to it too, most of the time. It's not so long ago that he told a kid the same story. And he kept his word, he let the kid go. He's probably fled the country with his girlfriend by now, and good for him.

"It's easy to get hard in this job. Paranoid. To suspect everyone," he says. And he's definitely speaking from personal experience, though that was less about the job and more about personal stuff, honestly. "I'll bet you've seen that too."
